TDS Chinning, Dipping and Push-up Stand Review
For a long time, I’ve wanted a unit with which I could do chin ups, dips and push-ups. I searched through fitness stores and the Internet to find one short enough to accommodate my exercise room. The problem is that the ceiling in my exercise room is only 89 inches high and most of the units, which incorporate vertical-knee-raise capability, range in height from 80 to 90 inches and might cause me to bump my head while chinning. Finally, I found a unit online listed at 72 inches in height that would fit in my room. Even better, the place that listed it was located across town from where I live. Took a drive there and the unit was as advertised so I bought it for $115. The parts were of average quality. The assembly manual was good, but some bolts weren’t the right length, necessitating a trip to the hardware store. Nonetheless, I finished putting it together in an hour. The unit has a white, powder-coated finish and is 48 inches long. Being 5 feet, nine inches tall, I could easily reach the chin-up bar and didn’t have to curl my legs under to do chin ups and dips. Push-ups are done on a raised padded bar, but require extra room for the length of your body. I positioned the unit by the door of my exercise room so I could extend my body into the hallway and that did the trick. The unit doesn’t have a vertical knee raise and that’s why it can be so short. I only weigh 145 lbs. and the unit easily supported my weight, though I can’t say how sturdy it would be if I weighed 250-300 lbs. So who or what is TDS? An Internet search only led me back to the website of the fitness store where I bought it. The assembly manual indicated the company was located in Elmira, NY. The unit was made in China. No warranty information came with the unit, but the logo on the website proclaims a lifetime warranty for TDS products. I’m satisfied with the TDS Chinning, Dipping, and Push-up stand, but with the height restrictions in my exercise room, it was the only game in town. Had my room been of normal height, I could have chosen between dozens of units that were just as good and slightly cheaper. But again, for me it was the only choice. Review by Andrew Kranjc
