Star Trac SC4100 Stepper Review
I've had the Star Trac SC4100 for over a year and had absolutely no maintenance issues whatsoever. It also delivers an awesome cardio workout with a variety of programs to choose from. Even though I was in pretty good shape when I first got it I could only do a few minutes without stopping to rest my burning thighs. I had to work up to a 20 minute workout but boy do you burn a lot of calories in that 20 minutes. I can do longer than that now but really 20 minutes is all you need. Not only is the Star Trac SC4100 great for working out but it doesn't use any electricity. No extra outlet needed for this puppy. The control panel on the SC4100 is easy to read and manipulate. For those who like to jump on without reading directions you'll have no problem. The display shows the usual stuff: calories burned, time, steps, etc. The heart rate monitor is accurate which is nice because that is not always the case I've noticed with some cardio machines. The only downside is the Star Trac doesn't have as many programs to choose from as the stairmaster. However I don't really feel myself missing that. You can use the manual and make up your own programs. Unless you have a lot of money to burn I'd recommend the Star Trac over the Stairmaster. I suppose the lack of a magazine/book rack would also be considered a downside. I usually watch TV while using it anyway but if you wanted to read you could balance a book on the little nubs that stick out of control console thing. The water bottle holder is also a bit awkward to reach while you're working out. These are cosmetic things however which could easily be fixed by adding a cheap little caddy or something. Star Trac SC4100 Stepper Recommended? Yes. More on the Star Trac Stairclimber SC4100
