Bowflex After 10 Years

I've only had my Bowflex for a few months, and I was curious to know how these beasts hold up. I tracked down a acquaintance who ordered an early Bowflex back in 1994 and fired a few questions at him. With his permission, I'm posting his answers here for any curious visitors.

Q: Are you still using your Bowflex after ten years?

Mikal: Absolutely.

Q: Really? You don't have to lie to me...

Mikal: I'm still using it three or four times a week. My wife goes through phases (fat phases she calls them, but don't say I shared that) where she uses it too.

Q: How has your Bowflex held up over the years?

Mikal: You know, we're really satisfied. Of course, there are scrapes and dents, some spots with a little decorative electrical tape... But considering we've moved four or five times [Mikal is in the military] it's really in good shape. No loss to functionality.

Q: Any complaints?

Mikal: No complaints, but I just want to let people know they're not likely to turn into bodybuilders with Bowflex. I'm sure that guy on the infomercial uses more than Bowflex to look like that. Your Bowflex will keep you strong and fit, but if you're looking to get big, stick with the free weights.

Q: Any advice for new Bowflex users?

Mikal: Just take your time and give your Bowflex a few weeks. It takes a while to get used to the motions, even if you have a weight training background. And don't forget to eat right (I think Bowflex now comes with a whole diet program) because like all exercise, it's a two part process. Exercise AND eat healthy.

Q: Didn't I see you at McDonald's with your kids last week?

Mikal: Lol. Nobody's a saint. Eat right most of the time, and you'll do OK.
