We've had the bowflex power pro for about five years. Not everybody in the family has religiously stuck to their diet and the bowflex workout routine, but overall it's gotten a lot of use and it's really held up well.

I moved to a new town and was looking around for a gym membership, and most of the ones in my area were $400 dollars and up just for set-up fees. That didn't even include monthly dues. I decided to get a Bowflex instead since it was something I could pay for and keep. It's been a good deal, really a good all around piece of equipment, and it's nice that you can do an aerobic workout with the rowing part too. The rowing isn't too exciting and I usually go running or biking instead, but it's great for when it's rainy out.

A lot of people complain about the cost of the bowflex but it's only expensive if you don't use it. If you are serious about getting into working out at home bowflex power pro will do everything you need to build muscle. I have the XTL with 310 pounds (got it at Costco for $1400) and I've already used it enough to make it worth the money. It's especially good if you spend a lot of time on the computer (I was having trouble with my back but using bowflex really helped strengthen up my muscles) or aren't very active and don't have time to (or let's face it don't really want to) go to the gym. I'm not having any of the pain in my back or tension in my shoulders and neck that I was getting before I started working out. So basically I would recommend the bowflex power pro. The attachments can add some good variety but aren't at all necessary for a good workout.

The nice thing about the bowflex is that you can get a good workout but you don't have rely on other people for spotting and there are no heavy plates to move around. I work weird hours so it's hard for me to find training partners who can work around my schedule. My power pro has made it easy to just work out for a half hour when I get home from work and I don't have to rely on anybody else. Only awkward things IMO are the fabric handgrips which can be less than ideal on some of the leg exercises.
